Overview

The Newport Jazz Festival, in its heyday played host to some of the best Jazz musicians of the genre. In Jazz on a Summer's Day, the 1958 Newport Jazz Fest in Rhode Island is shown in its full fifties glory - with the tunes to match.

Footage of jazz greats such as Thelonius Monk, Dinah Washington, Chuck Berry and Louis Armstrong play in between cuts of water and the city of Newport in high summer. Largely devoid of diaologue, the film simply allows the music to shine through- you'll be transported into another world (sweet escape from this Welly winter, no?). The film has been recognised by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant," reason enough to get yourself to Lighthouse Cuba for this exclusive Jazz Festival screening.

Screening times: Wednesday 8 June - 1.15pm, Thursday 9, June - 1.15pm, Friday 10 June- 10.50am, Saturday 11 June - 4.15pm.
