Matariki and the Six Sisters
The six-course meal represents the legend around Matariki and her daughters.
Overview
If you're looking for somewhere to celebrate a graduation, an anniversary or perhaps you just want to experience a different slice of Wellington, then this one's for you. Chef Monique Fiso and Charles Michel have come together once again for a Matariki celebration like none other — a truly unique six-course feast.
Fiso, the founder of Hiakai, has made waves for herself both in New Zealand and internationally. She's worked for Martin Bosley, Brad Farmerie, Missy Robbins and they've already made a Netflix show about her. Her restaurant having been awarded the most prestigious award for Innovation in Māori Development, Fiso has become known in the culinary world as a risk-taker, redefining Māori cuisine.
The six-course meal represents the legend around Matariki and her daughters, the six sisters, as they journey across the sky each year to visit their tupuna wahine, papatuanuku. As each course of foraged flora is presented, another part of the story will be told. Included in the ticket price is a glass of Matahiwi Estate wine, Garage Project beer or a non-alcoholic beverage to enhance the exploration of indigenous flavours.
A once in a lifetime opportunity, and right on your Wellington waterfront doorstep — why wouldn't you jump at the chance to eat, listen and learn with some of the world's most talented chefs in town?
