Overview

What happens when you cross nerds with burselque performers? This isn't a corny joke. It is a real thing and it is happening in Wellington. Nerdlesque. The celebration of nerds in cabaret and circus form. Think Armageddon, but burlesque style.

The event is made up of a range of performances, where well known and loved burlesque performers will become their favourite nerdy characters and perform their enactments on stage. Presented by Harlow Lestrange, the fire and hoop extraordinaire, who reigns from Christchurch and loves all things nerd, and has gathered a talented bunch of ladies to get their cosplay on and star in the show.

The performers include Amourous Ava, who, as well as being a burlesque star, runs a fan art swap ring. Her nerdy counterpart is Jareth the Goblin King, the character that she will become on the night. Also, Kay (Pink Hoops) is known for her extreme hula hooping abilities, is over from Bristol in the UK. Her nerdiest obsession in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and she also admits to collecting photographs of Bill Murray that have been autographed by other celebrities. The Purple Rose, New Zealand’s only deaf-friendly burlesque performer, claims that she is full-nerd whose walls are jam packed with fandom themed decorations. She is a freak for the television shows Dr Who and Firefly, and feels that she relates to Firefly’s Kaylee most fittingly. The show is sure to be stolen, however, by MC Sadie Von Scrumptious, who has been labelled as one of the nations favourite personalities since she began hosting events in 2010. She is a self-professed comic addict, who feels a close connection to Maggie Chascarillo from the comic series Love and Rockets.
