Pop-Up Sauna

Wellington's best kept wintry secret.

Overview

Wellington's best kept winter secret has parked up on the waterfront for another sauna season.

With its hygge-adjacent Scandi vibes, the Pop-Up Sauna is the perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon or a still evening (or any combination of the two). For $10 an hour, BYO towel, you're able to lounge around in the sauna, or if you're a hardout, run in and out to jump off the edge of the harbour into the freezing cold water and back into the warmth. There's room to change and store your stuff, and a heated outdoor shower.

The health benefits of a sauna are widely espoused around the world once word got out centuries ago that the Fins were onto something. They're said to loosen up your muscles and joints, calm you right down, and give you a great night's sleep. They also apparently help your body release toxins — nothing like a good sweat — and the Pop-Up Sauna's website reckons that "people with skin issues often find sauna use to be beneficial."

The Wellington Pop-Up Sauna will be around until the end of November, easing us into summer. You can find it on the waterfront right next to the jumping platform.

Its open times are slightly variable, so make sure to check the website.
