Overview

A collaboration of four Wellington-based endeavours (namely Southern Cross Garden Bar Restaurant, Garage Project, PlayShop and Shakespeare Globe Centre NZ), ShakesBeer in the Garden is an improvisational take on the big man himself. Throwing together references, characters and audience suggestions, the performers come up with their own imaginative (and hilarious) Shakespearean plays on the spot.

And it's all for a great cause. Proceeds go directly to SGCNZ, an organisation which has strived since 1991 to enhance life skills and educational possibilities through Shakespeare and performance. Describing themselves as a type of 'cultural United Nations', they also work at developing collaboration and leadership amongst New Zealand youth, with over half of NZ secondary schools involved.

Garage Project's Full Fathom Five (an original English style IPA with a twist) will be on tap, with full proceeds from the first keg going to SGCNZ, and, since it's Christmas and Shakespeare, Southern Cross will have a traditional roast dinner available alongside their usual menu.

Tickets are limited, so get in quick.
