Overview

Bartley & Company Art are well known for bringing recent graduates of New Zealand's art schools and burgeoning talents to the attention of Wellington's art community from their perch in Ghuznee Street.

Their latest exhibition is no different. Hamish Coleman is a graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons) from the Ilam School of Fine Arts at the University of Canterbury in 2012. He has exhibited across New Zealand in a variety of spaces, as well as institutional galleries.

In his latest showing, Shot Silk, he weaves together minimalism and representation in a range of shimmering, textured surfaces. His aim, to portray fleeting moments from found film footage are given new life in iridescent shades and hues stretched across linen onto handmade frames (the artist is also the city's most professional canvas stretcher). He makes the cinematic solid and anchors the ethereal.

Shot Silk is opening with a launch party, starting at 5.30pm, and will continue to show through until December 2.
