Who said that feeling the joy of a swing set was just for children? A new installation by Soft Serve Social is letting adults in on the action.

Overview

If you're wandering through the heart of Wellington over the next two weeks, you might notice an addition to the office buildings and bustling sidewalk action. From November 11, creative collective Soft Serve Social will erect 'Playescape - an urban swing set', an installation bound for Glover Park on Ghuznee Street.

Despite the name, Playescape isn't like something you'd find at your local playground. The swing set, which is a temporary piece of infrastructure, is made from rejected construction goods and reusable materials, with a hammock hanging between the structure to complete the swing.

Playsescape was created with the aim of encouraging Wellingtonians to take a seat and swing for a moment or two, while embracing relaxation and taking a minute out of their day to be mindful of the environment around them. The swing will be available to locals day and night, with LED lights keeping the darkness at bay, and a video projection set up to entertain the after-dark swingers.

The team hopes the swing will enhance Wellingtonians emotional wellbeing, allowing them to experience a sense of calm. Soft Serve Social also wants the installation to be an open space to communicate with peers, whether you know them or not. They hope to continue encouraging this by rolling out activations around and on the swing throughout its tenure in Glover Park.
