Overview

Yvette Velvin's latest paintings bring objects to life. Inspired by tiny and beautiful things that are recognisable and comfortably familiar, Yvette uses oils to transform the muses to dreamlike scenes on clay, timber and linen.

Numerous canvases are dressed in pastel-toned scenes while others are mixed media masterpieces of electric blue. The works depict something so specific and simultaneously are open to the admirers interpretation. Yvette's works have taken pride of place Aro Valley's latest eatery, Rita, and have played a role in group exhibitions around the city.

Toi Pōneke Arts Centre has long been acknowledged as a home for Wellington creatives, providing spaces to work, exhibit and play while they open the door to collaborative processes. They describe themselves as a 'home away from home' and have supported hundreds of emerging talents over their years.
