Overview

Playhouse Productions NZ is a baby in the theatre industry, formed only last year by two friends bonded over their love of the stage and what goes on upon it. Surgery in Mind is their first Fringe Festival entry, although the two have rich histories full of drama and acting. With their combined experience, and the help of a design team, they’ve produced the performance, and it is a highly anticipated one.

The story focusses on a young woman, Lena, who is about to have a brain tumour removed. After signing the usual disclaimer, agreeing to the surgery and those accidents that may occur throughout, she is taken into theatre and put under an anaesthetic.  Then things get interesting. Unconscious to the real world, Lena is super conscious in the Underworld of her mind. She is sent o n a quest through this subconscious land, where she meets heroes and villains of Greek mythology and learns life lessons along the way.

The content is diverse, and heavy for a Fringe Festival piece, but the storyline is intriguing and I, for one, am interested in how the operation will end.
