SWIDT
The most electrifying hip hop group in New Zealand.
Overview
Straight outta the 312 is SWIDT who are easily one of the best hip hop collectives in Aotearoa right now. Their gutsy, multi-syllabic flows tackle societal flaws that run deep in New Zealand — from toxic masculinity to tall poppy syndrome without compromising on beats that bang regardless of how many listens.
Although you can hear international influences such as J Cole or Migos, SWIDT still maintain a strong sense of place within their music. Their 2017 debut Stoneyhunga marked the renaissance of decent hip hop in New Zealand and scored the quintet a swag of awards. To celebrate the release of their six-track EP The Most Electrifying, SWIDT are taking their first headline tour to San Fran on 6 October. They'll be supported by MELODOWNZ and IllBaz who have been creating hype as High Beams.
The Most Electrifying cements SWIDT as a band with plenty of tricks up their sleeve, so make sure you nab a ticket to check out the reigning kings of hip hop in Aotearoa.
