In the capital this Waitangi Day with no plans? Wellington City Council has you sorted. Head to Waitangi Park for this free annual event. Te Rā o Waitangi is a chance to relax, celebrate and commemorate Waitangi Day with the community.

Friends and whānau of all ages are welcome to come and eat, drink, sing with an impressive lineup from 10am onwards at Te Wharewaka. Start the afternoon off with Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Ngā Mokopuna and wile the afternoon away in Waitangi Park with performances from Amba Holly, Ria Hall, Newton Rocksteady and many more. Also on the bill: weaving demonstrations, waka rides and massages.

While the event is smoke and alcohol-free, you can keep your hunger at bay with food options on-site. A delicious hāngī thanks to Karaka Cafe will be available to purchase between 8am and noon as well as some available later in the day at the park itself. Get in quick, as it's first in, first served until it runs out.
