Overview

Dave Marshall's new solo exhibition at Enjoy Art Gallery is a show about "earth, flames, pottery and your location."

Marshall, a Wellington-based artist working between conceptual practice and pottery (and yet both and neither), worked on the show while firing kilns at the Wellington Potters Association and completing a residency there. He has a BFA in Sculpture from Ilam School of Fine Arts and has recently shown at The Adam Art Gallery in The Tomorrow People as well as International Foodcourt/Global Classic at The Physics Room, Christchurch (both with Annie Mackenzie); and Mayfield Residence, Ashburton Art Gallery, 2016 (group).

The show Terrestrials looks at the formation of culture through the medium of pottery. The pieces have distinct Aotearoa roots, in Marshall's gathering of clay and other materials from local sites. In his own words, he "considers the kinds of knowledge and encounters that emerge when taking the dirt road."
