Overview

Adapted from the novel by Kate de Goldi, one of New Zealand's most cherished children's authors, The ACB with Honora Lee takes form as a play adapted and directed by Jane Waddell, shown as part of the New Zealand Festival.

De Goldi tenderly depicts childrens' perception of our world - Honora Lee centres on the story of a young girl, Perry, dealing with her grandmother's dementia. As Honora Lee loses her memory, Perry creates a sprawling alphabet book for her grandmother, herding up her memories furiously. Scrambling to create an illustrated gift of love for Honora Lee, the play bursts with with delicate themes of love, eccentricities and quirky humour within the tender bonds of their grandmother-granddaughter relationship.

Adjunct to this event is the opportunity to hear de Goldi and Waddell talk about the production and process behind bringing The ACB with Honora Lee to audiences at Circa. It's free, and a great opportunity to hear two of our most dynamic women in writing speak. Find details for the event, run through the festival as A Novel Approach, here.
