Overview

The festive season is upon us, and what better way to celebrate than by sharing your secret love of hardcore punk rock with your closest friends. This Friday, prepare to hear Edward Street's Meow Bar from a mile away, as longing guitar riffs, a call of voices both angelic and harsh, and ringing distortion swallow the streets whole.

Consider this an early Christmas present from the hypnotic, psych rock community. Featuring a truly Wellington lineup of acts (many of whom have played together before) including experimental art noise band The All Seeing Hand. During the day this trio may seem like regular guys, but at night they come alive. An unforgettable act, these three friends bring together the most exotic pieces of punk and challenge them onstage — think Mongolian throat singing meets futuristic mechanical drones.

Also coming at you are heavy stoner rock duo Earth Tongue. Fresh off a crowd-funded European tour, this team of Wellington royalty is finally back on home turf to crush it for Christmas. With their latest single 'The Well of Pristine Order' kicking it large on the Radioactive charts, there's no doubt this team are one to watch.

But if your friends aren't so keen on your love of punk, there will be something they will love — this is a night to experiment. For $14, be entranced by Motte's hypnotic uneasiness, and fall into her light, yet rich, looped violin. With acts like Lady Lazer Light and Bizznet there's never a dull moment in the house. Intriguing patrons with their futuristic projections of fantastical beasts, complemented with raging electronic beats, what was once Meow on Edward Street is turned into a psychedelic paradise for the night. Be there this Friday for one night of ethereal madness alongside the best of the city's most explosive musicians – it will go off.
