Tokimonsta

Overview

Off the back of appearances at Coachella and SXSW festivals, US producer and DJ Tokimonsta will perform in New Zealand for the second time. The Los Angeles native, otherwise known as Jennifer Lee, was last in New Zealand in 2013, where she performed a sold out show at Bacco Room.

With an upbringing learning classical piano, Lee spread her musical wings at the other end of the spectrum making woozy, cosmic glitch-hop. She became the first female to release music on Flying Lotus’s label Brainfeeder with her debut album Midnight Menu and subsequently released an EP on the same label in 2011, before branching out to Ultra Records and her own Young Art Records label.

Her performance is based around new technology with pieces of musical and multimedia gear, while her sound has been described as a ‘mixture of organic and future-minded soundscapes…with a narcotic, detached haze surrounding each song’.
