Overview

Think about what you are wearing right now. Your haircut. The music you are listening to, the places you go to hang out and eat. How many of these choices are influenced by trends, and to what extent? Would you still pick them if they weren't fashionable or favoured by the social group you identify with?

Our consumer-driven society would be nowhere if it wasn't for trends, the guiding light for the design, fashion and food industries to follow. Fast, cheap fashion on frequent rotation is an obvious example, but even the big fashion houses are producing multiple lines a year— Autumn/Winter, Spring/Summer, pre-fall, couture, Resort, various diffusion lines and collaborations with stores like H&M. We see the same trends transpire throughout graphic design, object design, photography and styling. It's fascinating to watch as they trickle through, once you consciously open your eyes and start drawing connections.

Trend Beacons is a film that aims to help you do just that. Shot by two Icelandic directors, Örn Marino Arnarson and Thorkell Hardarson, Trend Beacons features interviews with some of the industry's very best, letting us ordinary folk in on the secrets that keep us hooked and fill pockets of many companies and corporations. A rare and valuable look into the trend forecasting process of the experts.
