Zero Cool
Newtown cachet and a lo-fi, no worries sound.
Overview
Named after a favourite character in the so-bad-it's-good film Hackers, Scott Maynard's newly-minted band Zero Cool will be debuting their new self-titled record this Friday at Caroline. Making waves with their single 'Yo-Pro Dinner Party', this band has Newtown cachet and a lo-fi, no worries sound that'll be pretty easy listening this summer.
The seven-track album ambles at a chill pace, best described as "melodic jangle-pop". Scott Maynard's soft tone belies his witty (and quite heartfelt at times) lyrics. The songs are about typical life stuff, told from a decidedly light-hearted perspective. Scott's basically gone all one-man-band on this album — he covers the vocals, drums, bass, guitar, and synth. Deanne Krieg (the band's original bassist) sings backing vocals on most of the tracks. Post-production was covered by Al Green (mixing) and Brad Boatright (mastering). When it comes to performing the album live, Scott's called in his brother Matt Maynard on drums and Symon Palmer on bass.
They'll be joined at the album party by friends Heavy Chest and Bad Friend.
