Overview

Really, really, ridiculously good looking models Derek Zoolander and Hansel recently strolled down the catwalk at Paris Fashion Week to announce the long-awaited sequel of Zoolander. The film will see its release in February 2016.

While you wait for the second outing of the cult film, you’re going to have to make yourself familiar with the original. Thankfully Wellington's Southern Cross are screening the fashionista-comedy as part of their monthly outdoor movie night.

Inspired by a pair of short films written for the VH1 Fashion Awards in 1996 and 1997, the film follows dimwitted male model Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) as he falls from grace.

After being ousted as the top male fashion model by rising star Hansel McDonald (Owen Wilson), and following a freak gasoline-fight accident, Zoolander announces the retirement of his signature ‘Blue Steel’ look and attempts to reconnect with his coal mining family. His vulnerability leaves him as an easy target for fashion designer Jacobim Mugatu (Will Ferrell) to use him in a plot to assassinate the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

The free screening comes will an optional 'fashion' theme for those who want to take a walk down the purpose built runway, and as per usual, there will be bean bags, hot water bottles, blankets and food and drink.
