Overview
Found at boutique design-led hotel QT Wellington, Hot Sauce is a lively eatery that pushes the boundaries of your average hotel restaurant. Overhanging bao baskets and gold Maneki-neko (lucky cats) create a quirky dining space, while the kitchen serves up a range of mouthwatering Asian-inspired dishes.
Now, executive chef Jiwon Do is leading Hot Sauce into exciting new territory with a new menu this spring. Do's menu is relaxed and has been designed for sharing, with burgers, bao and curries packing big and spicy flavours by way of Thailand, South Korea and Japan.
Those looking to snap the famed Hot Sauce cheese pull won't be disappointed, as the eatery's much-loved mozzarella sticks remain on the menu. Further crowd favourites, including the popcorn chicken with smoked maple glaze and signature lamb rendang, also make the cut.
The new small bites menu includes a duo of oysters with wasabi and sweet soy reduction, as well as Asian-inspired sides like takoyaki balls, kimchi loaded fries and vegetarian potstickers. From there, a new range of burgers and bao share the spotlight. Take your pick from a pillowy steamed bun filled with yellow curry fried chicken, a bulgogi beef burger complemented by grilled cheese and sriracha mayo, or a stacked Thai fish creation slathered with green curry sauce.
Local ingredients shine in both new desserts, including Zelati's Fix & Fogg peanut butter gelato on warm banana bread with maple Kahlua syrup and candied walnuts, and the Caffe L'affare espresso and condensed milk mousse with vanilla chantilly and Baileys syrup. To wash it all down you can't go past Hot Sauce's range of cocktails, local craft beer or Japanese whisky selection.
The new Hot Sauce menu is set to change seasonally and will also be available through the takeaway service.
Hot Sauce is releasing its new menu on 25 August. Find the eatery at QT Wellington at 90 Cable Street, Te Aro and make your booking here.
