When Six Barrel Soda closed its Eva Street shop in 2017, soda sippers all over Wellington let out a collective sigh. The micro-factory and retro soda shop had become a favourite hang-out for many locals, thanks to its refreshing soft drinks served with a nostalgic vibe.

Now, two years later, the craft soda brand has unwrapped a special Christmas treat for the fans —  a buzzy, new cellar door experience. Nestled in Lukes Lane, in the heart of its bustling factory, Six Barrel Soda Co's cellar door is a nifty spot to sample the range of fresh fizz, just metres from where its made.

The cellar door is open to the public on weekdays when the factory is in full swing, so you can pop in for a taste and get a sneak peek at the art of soda making at the same time. Pick and mix from the range of 12 classic syrups like the popular Cola Six or raspberry and lemonade, or dabble in the limited edition, seasonal numbers and funky collab flavours. Tastings are free and you can sample as many as you like; perfect for those who like to try before they buy.

Designed to be mixed with sparkling water to make snazzy sodas, the low-sugar syrups are handmade from scratch, using all natural ingredients. The fruity flavours and creative tonics also make a dandy addition to cocktails or mocktails.

If this gets you fizzing, you can purchase the syrups and bottled sodas right on the spot, fresh from the factory. There's also a range of cute soda merch and gift packs you can grab, as well as the fancy AARKE carbonators, for all your at home, soda making needs.

Six Barrel Soda's cellar door is located on Lukes Lane at 40 Taranaki Street, and is open from 11am to 4pm from Monday to Friday.
