Overview

No longer does a plant-based lifestyle mean you have to BYO carrot sticks and hummus to a gathering. Vegan treats have come a long way in the last few years, and now those living on planet-friendly fare have access to a huge range of delicious morsels including cookies, pies and cakes.

But one new Wellington bakery might just blow the rest of them out of the water, thanks to its array of beautiful baked goods — including a jaw-dropping Oreo cheesecake-filled doughnut — without one animal harmed in the process.

It's the first brick and mortar offering for business owners Mica and Chris who quickly became a Newtown market fave back in 2021. Now based on Mason's Lane in Lambton Quay, Belén is bound to become a regular weekday lunch spot for the vegan and non-vegan business crowd alike.

With an array of pastries, focaccias, pies, croissants and yes, doughnuts, we'd recommend going with a group to try a bit of everything. There are also gluten-free and allergen-friendly options.
