There's a new kid on the block, and it's unlike any existing cafe in Wellington.

Having opened in the first week of October, this quirky cafe can be found underneath The Marion Hostel; a pastel green pop of colour on Marion Street. The neon pink signage outside is just a taste of what you can expect once you step inside.

The space is a balance of luminous wonder and rustic cafe charm. After being greeted by Peaches, the relaxed resident whippet, you're immediately drawn to a brightly coloured mural painted on the back wall of the cafe (done by Gina Kiel and Zoe Hall), with a pink dining table and a glitter adorned coffin right as you walk in. As you move into the cafe space on your left, you'll feel the warmth of the sunlight streaming in through the big industrial windows. Teamed with beautiful wooden floors, and exposed brick walls, it's a great place to disappear into if you're looking for creative inspiration, or even just to sit and catch up with a friend over a cup of coffee.

Fifi's is the brainchild of Fiona Hewitt, and she and the team really have done a phenomenal job of bringing their creative concept to life. Thanks to the help of their "fairy godmother" Cal, the baked goods they have on offer are totally on par with the splendour of the cafe itself. With most items being freshly baked on a daily basis, you're in for a treat no matter what you order, especially for gluten-free and vegan customers.

Of all the available eats on offer, our top recommendations would be the melt-in-your-mouth vegan, gluten-free silken chocolate tart, and the gluten-free cheese puffs. The puffs are simply epic, and are heavenly with the butter that is served with them. Team any of those with a Good Fortune flat white, and you're set for success.

Fifi's really is a unique gem to have arrived to the city, and we highly recommend a visit. If it's 80s-inspired music to get lost in while you sip your tea, or you're just looking for an excuse to give Peaches some love, head on over and experience the magic for yourself.
