Pancake Rocks
On the coastal cliffs of the West Coast, you'll find a stack of pancakes like no other.
Overview
Eroded by the elements to form what looks like stacks of pancakes, this limestone rock formation is a must-see sight in Punakaiki. The best time to visit is at high tide with a southwesterly swell to see the ocean swell into the caverns beneath the rocks and push the water through the formation's blowholes to create impressive fountains. It's also a good spot for dolphin spotting if you're lucky.
