Overview

Love it or hate it, this year marks the 25th birthday of Auckland's iconic concrete toothpick. To celebrate, there will be a series of activations and celebrations throughout the month of August marking 25 years of the Sky Tower.

For those that love expressing their personal taste on a grand scale, the most exciting of these will be the chance to choose which colour the tower will be illuminated in. For only the second time in history, attendees of the celebrations at the base of the tower on August 4, 5 and 6 can choose to light up the tower in colours ranging from pink, blue, green, gold and even something dubbed 'pastel party'.

Organisers recommend getting there early to nab your spot — there are only so many colour changes a tower can make. If you miss out, there will also be entertainment, food trucks, DJs and spot prizes on offer to soothe the blow. Basically, it's going to be one big party.

A mini art gallery will also be installed along the main observation deck of the tower for the month of August, showing the history of the Sky Tower in a series of images. And getting up there to check it out will be cheaper than ever — ticket prices will be dropped to $19.97 all month to mark the year the tower was completed.

Of course, if you want to toast to the tower in style, there's no better spot than the Sugar Club. The 53-storey-high restaurant boasting the best views in the city will be serving $25 celebratory champagne cocktails on Wednesday to Sunday evenings, so you can cheers while looking out over the twinkling Auckland cityscape.

That's only the beginning of the celebrations — daredevils can even get 50 percent off SkyWalk and SkyJump tickets on Thursday August 4, and 25 percent off the rest of the month.

August 2022 marks 25 years since the Sky Tower's completion in 1997. To find out more about the deals and installations celebrating the tower's birthday, head to the official website.
