Overview

If you haven't already heard of the comedic force that is Amy Schumer, or of her many recent accolades (including an Emmy for outstanding variety/sketch series), I'm inclined to wonder whether you've been living under a rock somewhere.

Regardless, Schumer's upcoming Auckland stand-up show (her first in New Zealand) will be sure to put her on your radar. With a number of award-winning television shows (Inside Amy Schumer), and feature films (Trainwreck) under her belt, Amy Schumer is confidently blazing a trail for female comics with her no-holds barred, shockingly honest kind of comedy.

Sticking an unambiguous middle finger to the idea of comedy as a man's game, her sets delve into sexual antics and self-deprecating anecdotes, both cringe inducing and comfortingly relatable. Her honest, dry comedic style has a way of instantly putting an audience at ease, and before we know it, we are reminiscing about dreadful one night stands, funny dating experiences and (for the women in the audience) the hilarious complexities of being a women in a society of such extreme standards and pressures.

If you're looking for a night out with some friends, or you just need a good old-fashioned chuckle at the end of the week, grab a ticket and head along on December 17 and send off 2016 with a much-needed laugh.
