Newmarket's Tucks & Bao Is Holding a Bao Eating Competition

Like bao? Dig out your stretchy pants and prepare to bao down, Auckland's newest and quite possibly best makers of Chinese steamed buns, Tucks & Bao, is holding a bao eating competition.

Run by competitive eating champ Nela Zisser and partner Benedict Hefford, the establishment is no stranger to excessive consumption. It regularly attracts gorgers from across the country for the Chairman Bao challenge— a bun stacked with two meat patties, six slices of cheese, 12 rashers of bacon, two salads and six Chinese sausages, with a side serving of 500gm of fries, three baby bao and a 1.1 litre freak shake. In this instance the goal will be The Seven Deadly Bao, a challenge that involves ticking off the entire seven bao on the menu. A fairly attractive concept when the varieties include: Orleans fried shrimp, pulled pork, crispy tofu and pork belly.

The Seven Deadly Bao Eating Contest will take place at the Newmarket eatery on January 22 from 4pm. The kicker for chowing down on the most bao is a $500 cash prize, while the runners up will be rewarded for their efforts in the form of more bao. Interested parties should email [email protected].
