Overview
Adelaideans in the mood for good pies and good times need not look further than Anchovy Bandit, a former hole-in-the-wall cocktail bar slinging pizzas turned stylish suburban eatery, led by executive chef and co-owner Shane Wilson.
The spot is located underneath a cinema, so movie lovers shouldn't be surprised that its name is an homage to one of the biggest names in cinema history. Captain Peachfuzz and The Anchovy Bandit is a screenplay from none other than Pulp Fiction director Quentin Tarantino.
The movie puns show up throughout the menu; for instance, instead of a chef's choice tasting menu, there's a choice between a 'Short Film' and a 'Director's Cut'. Diners can choose between pizza and pasta dishes as well as small plates with options like sourdough focaccia with duck skin butter, kangaroo crudo with cashew cream and queen scallop with furikake.
Classic Italian spritzes, sours and cocktails take up the first two pages of the drinks menu. It's followed by an extensive wine list that includes uncommon vermouth, amaro and fortified wine options, vino from across the Aussie wine regions, and Italian varietals. If you choose to end your meal with dessert instead of an amaro digestif, you can't go wrong with cannoli or apple tarte tatin.
