Overview
Rodriguez, the songwriter behind a barrage of haunting and experimental folk songs, was thought dead just a few years ago, but now he’s coming to New Zealand.
Back in the late 60s two celebrated music producers discovered the next big thing, a soulful and prophetic lyricist whose songs would capture a billion hearts, or so they hoped. After a flopped album the Detroit artist disappeared into nothingness, leaving behind rumours of a gruesome on-stage suicide.
But, years later, a bootlegged recording made its way into apartheid infected South Africa, turning the mysterious artist into an underground phenomenon. Years later two filmmakers set out to investigate the triuth behind the legend, to seek out their hero, and they found him.
Launched into the spotlight by the documentary, Sixto Rodrigeuz is finally receiving the attention he deserves, and you can see him live, for the first time ever on New Zealand soil, at The Logan Campbell Centre.
