Comic Drop
This new exhibition packs a punch with its combination of bold and assertive gestures with luscious colour.
Overview
Comic Drop, Judy Millar's new exhibition at High St's Gow Langsford gallery, packs a punch with its combination of bold and assertive gestures with luscious colour. Comic Drop is a continuation of Millar's exploration into the act of painting, distilling and amplifying the essence of a gesture.
One of New Zealand's leading contemporary artists, Judy Millar works in the tradition of Expressionist and gestural painting but puts her own spin on it. The large scale works integrate a variety of techniques, infusing references to the past with Millar's trademark style.
Millar is making a name for herself locally and on the international stage, having represented NZ twice at the Venice Biennale. She has recently exhibited in Germany and has upcoming shows in the Czech Republic and Australia.
Comic Drop runs alongside the Mrkusich/Thornley exhibition of contemporary NZ abstract painting at Gow Langsford's Kitchener St site.
