Overview

Welcome to the surreal world of digital art. DJ3D14 is a 3D interactive experience combining real and fictional video scenes. The real images are recognisable public places in Auckland and the fictional ones are excerpts from well-known films. A robot watches participants and inserts their images into the video scenes. Other viewers can operate arcade buttons to select the visual narratives that unfold in front of them.

In celebration of the Aotearoa Digital Arts Network (ADA) symposium about Space:Network:Memory, creator Daniel James explores the dated technology of anaglyph 3D video.

The real-time anaglyph 3D facet of this artwork stems from a project that took place at one of the monthly Noir Desir dance parties in Wellington last year. A hand built robot took a real-time feed of the audience and mixed this footage into other projected visuals at the party.
