World Cinema Showcase
The great thing about Summer ending (I know that sounds like a contradiction in terms) is the knowledge that Winter's approach brings with it a wealth of film festivals. First up and currently playing at Rialto and Bridgeway is the World Cinema Showcase. Now in its 14th year, the festival screens an intelligent mix of features and documentaries - and this year looks like no exception.

The programme is selected by the International Film Festival director Bill Gosden and includes films which, for various reasons, have not already been shown in New Zealand. Some are newly discovered gems, others debuted too late for the main festival or have already screened in the International film festival but were not subsequently put on general release.
With such a varied bunch of films on offer, the hard part is choosing which to see. It can be a bit of daunting process but one well worth the effort. Check out the full schedule at worldcinemashowcase.co.nz
