Overview

After attracting more than 10,000 meatheads in its first two years, Meatstock will return to Auckland in February 2020 for two days of animal celebration and extreme protein consumption.

Part meat expo, part music festival, the event features butchers showing off their knifemanship and gladiator-style barbecue cook-offs. Fourteen teams from across New Zealand have already signed up to show off their prowess behind the grill.

Helping punters get their meat fix will be Ponsonby pit smokers Miss Moonshines, low 'n' slow food truck Dixie Barbecue, sausage aficionados Black Stag Deli, plus Aloisio Brazilian BBQ, Che Lucio BBQ, Big Smoke BBQ Co., Morepork BBQ, Southern Meat Kitchen, Caveman BBQ and Meat Candy BBQ.

To help attendees recreate their own low 'n' slow feast at home, international pit masters will on hand running barbecue classes and demonstrations. Dropping by for the 2020 event will be third-generation barbeque pitmaster Charlie McKenna of Lillie's Q, certified grilling expert Danielle Bennett (aka Diva Q), and award-winning Aussie barbecuers Michael Willcocks and Mitch Davis.

Music is also a key element of the festival and a specially curated stage is expected to showcase the best in blues, country, rock 'n' roll and everything in between. On the bill: Henry Wagons, Swamp Thing, Frank Sultanta, The Sweet Jelly Rolls, Hot Diggity Bluegrass Band and more.
