Michael Kiwanuka
One of the most thrilling new voices in contemporary soul music.
Overview
British soul singer Michael Kiwanuka has been confirmed for a two-date tour of New Zealand in April 2013. His first official outing here it follows a visit earlier this year in promotion of his debut album, Home Again.
One of the most thrilling new voices in contemporary soul music, Michael Kiwanuka broke through to the big time after he won the prestigious BBC Sound Of 2012 award and his debut album was nominated for the Mercury Prize last year.
With vocal comparisons made to the tireless sounds of Otis Redding and Marvin Gaye, Kiwanuka takes influence from the work of Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Shuggie Otis, Roberta Flack and Bill Withers and has been tipped to be a long-standing star in the soul genre.
Michael Kiwanuka has a rich and weathered voice that carries with it more experience than his own years have gained and a style steeped in folk and soul traditions that reflect a real dedication to his work.
