Armchair art appreciation with AGNSW and iTunes U
It's that time of year when we seek inspiration for things to do in the winter months that will keep us warm, dry and interested. Well, the Art Gallery of NSW ticks all of those boxes. But instead of wandering around aimlessly not sure where to look or what to look for, why not get your own personal guided tour by one of the gallery's own curators? It's the best way to learn about the magnificent works of art this gallery has on show, and, most importantly, it's free.
This month sees the gallery come to iTunes U with content that was previously only accessible to higher education institutions but is now available to the wider world, i.e. you. Download one of the audio guides at no charge and head down there for the ultimate guided tour. Edmund Capon, the director of the gallery, will guide you through his favourite works in the collection or the kids' audio tour will occupy a small person on school holidays while you rest.
If you really can't bear the thought of braving the rain, then snuggle down with your laptop and enjoy one of the many lectures or videos available online. And once you're done with them, why not explore another fine institution from another corner of the world also accessible via iTunes U? Head to MoMA (USA) or the Tate (UK), all from the comfort of your armchair.
