Calling all makers and creators.

Applications are now being accepted for the Auckland Regional Parks Artist in Residence. The residency enables an artist to set up shop for two months in a local regional park to explore the surroundings and express their inner weirdo through a new body of work related to the residency experience. Previous residents have included a poet, composer, painter, sculptor, installation artist, photographer and film-maker.

The artist selected will live in a beach-side bach at either Tawharanui Regional Park or Scandrett Regional Park, both situated north east of Warkworth.

An artist’s fee to assist the development of new work is offered as well as free accommodation. In return the artist is encouraged to share their work with the public or park visitors during or after the residency.

2013 artist in residence Tim Prebble shared some of his residency work at a free screening at Huia Lodge in December, presenting a distillation of thousands of photos and hundreds of hours of field recordings as well as compositions ‘threaded’ by the calls of native birds.

Applications are open until February 17, 2014.
