Overview

Friday night Silo Cinema is back and you know what that means - summer is on its way. If you've recently moved to Auckland or if you've been living under a rock, it's the weekly event where you can watch movies for free projected onto Wynyard Quarter's Silo 7.

Lacking a bit of enthusiasm for the festive season? The December sessions will sort you out. The schedule kicks off with the American Christmas classic Its a Wonderful Life on the 6th, followed by Tim Burton's quirky animation Nightmare Before Christmas on the 13th and ending wiih The Muppet Christmas Carol on the 20th.

In January the Japanese animation Spirited Away is playing on the 10th. Come along and see why this became the most successful Japanese film of all time. Environmentally-minded urban planning documentary The Human Scale airs on the 17th, The Lion King on the 24th and the 1960s gem The Graduate on the 31st. If this title rings a bell it's the one where a fresh-faced uni graduate played by Dustin Hoffman gets seduced by a certain 'Mrs Robinson'.

As well as the Friday night films, there are a range of other free events planned at Silo Park. There'll be food stalls, music from Auckland DJs and plenty of shopping opportunities at the Christmas markets from Thursdays to Sundays each week in December and Fridays and Saturdays in January.
