Overview

New Zealand noisemakers are now invited to apply for the 2014 Red Bull Music Academy, taking place in Toyko, Japan from October 12 to November 14, 2014.

The Academy, which celebrates its fifteenth anniversary in 2014, is an annual exploration of music and hosts 60 up-and-coming musicians from around the world to participate in workshops in a custom-fitted complex of studios and workspaces. By night, they perform in the host city’s venues alongside contemporary and classic innovators as well as heroes and heroines of the local scene.

Former lecturers include Nile Rodgers, Flying Lotus, Giorgio Moroder, Erykah Badu, Bootsy Collins, Q-Tip, Public Enemy's Chuck D, M.I.A. and James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, just to name a few.

The application is a daunting one at 17 pages, and even requires a drawing of yourself in relation to the musical universe, as well as selecting a playlist to accompany dinner with the in laws.
