Overview
Just when you thought you couldn't can-can anymore, you can. Some of the world's most talent cabaret artists are heading to our shores for the fourth season of Auckland Live's International Cabaret.
A spectacle not to be missed, the festival will be abuzz with enchanting, sequinned and exotic femme and homme fatales across three venues — The Basement, Town Hall and Q Theatre — setting alight the stages with some of the most spellbinding shows us Kiwis have ever seen.
Leading the lineup this year is cabaret troupe Velvet. Directed by Craig Llott and starring the original disco diva, Marcia Hines, this show is set to be a throw back to Boogie Wonderland at its finest.
Starman features Berlin's premier glamour artist Sven Ratzke as David Bowie reimagined; Miss Frisky Karaoke Experience will see one of the biggest voices in cabaret wow audiences with a night of karaoke with a twist; Play On is a night of Shakespearean classics and Kiwiana word play; That Bloody Woman is a rock opera based around the achievements of local badass Kate Sheppard; The Sound of Fallen Stars is a live fast and die young homage to fallen music icons; Cole is a tribute piece to 20th century Broadway composer Cole Porter; local piece O'Au (Its me) explores Polynesian culture, sexuality and expression, and Super Hugh-Man The Legend Lives On is a classic Kiwi vs Australian mutant story.
Perfect for a night out with the girls, or a sultry date with the significant other in your life, make a night of it with the 'dinner and a show' at the Town Hall or Q Theatre, should you be so inclined to dine with them. After all, there's nothing like a little pre-show nibble, or post-show dessert — bubbles at both of course.
Enjoy a month of late night cavorting of the theatrical variety as Auckland plays host to some of the world's best provocateurs this September. For more details visit Auckland Live.
