Overview
The Red Bull Sound Select program - which frequently joins musicians, fans of musicians, and the tastemakers who break them - are rolling out a special release this Record Store Day with the unveiling of a limited edition 12" EP.
Kiwi musicians Esther Stephens & The Means, Black City Lights, Kamandi, and Team Dynamite all contributed a song to the EP which will be released through twelve of New Zealand's cult record stores on Saturday, April 18 - including Real Groovy (Auckland), Marbecks (Auckland), Southbound (Auckland), Penny Lane (Christchurch), Relics (Dunedin), Mint Music (Lower Hutt), Just the Record (Napier), Slow Boat (Wellington), Vinyl Countdown (New Plymouth), Deathray Records (Newtown), and Rough Peel (Wellington).
Side A of the record is Team Dynamite's 'You're the Man' and Kamandi's 'Take Me Home', Side B Black City Lights 'XMYMXND' and Esther Stephens & The Means 'Heartbreak'. Record Store Day is all about celebrating the glorious act of holding vinyls and CDs (hell, even cassettes) in your hands. "[It's] a fantastic way to bring some attention to the joy of owning physical music in a digital world and support small businesses." reckons Esther Stephens, front-woman to Red Bull Sound Select/Young, Gifted & Broke affiliated band Esther Stephens & The Means, who's song 'Heartbeat' features on the vinyl.
Red Bull Sound Select's most engaged local fans will have the vinyl freely bestowed upon them. For those who miss out, the playlist can also be downloaded at redbullsoundselect.com/nz.
