The 48th annual Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards were presented at Auckland’s Vector Arena last night (November 21, 2013).

It was a clean sweep for Auckland 17-year-old Lorde who took out all three of her nominated categories - Single of the Year for Royals, People's Choice, Breakout Artist of the Year, as well as scooping up the International Achievement Award. Joel Kefali of music video production company Special Problems also took out Best Video for Lorde’s Royals.

Soul singer Aaradhna added three Tuis to her trophy cabinet, which already holds six Pacific Music Awards, won earlier this year. She took out the coveted Album of the Year and Best Urban/Hip-Hop Album for ‘Treble & Reverb’, plus the Best Female Solo Artist award.

Other multi-winners include drum n bass act Shapeshifter who won Best Group and Best Electronica Album for their fifth album ‘Delta’.

Shona Laing became the first solo female artist to be presented with the Legacy Award and be inducted into the NZ Music Hall of Fame, joining Dave Dobbyn, Herbs, Straitjacket Fits, Topp Twins, Johnny Devlin, Toy Love, Ray Columbus & The Invaders, Shihad, The Formyula, Hello Sailor, Dragon, Hirini Melbourne and Richard Nunns. The award was presented by Jordan Luck and followed with a tribute performance by Ruby Frost singing two of Laing’s hits - 'Soviet Snow' and 'Glad I'm Not A Kennedy'.
