Overview

After its debut run last year, New Year's Eve festival Wondergarden was applauded for its all-local lineup and for spicing up the usually bland entertainment offerings in the inner city.

The festival is pitched as an alternative option for Aucklanders who don't want to leave the city limits just to ring in the new year. The family-friendly, day-night event will return for its second run this December, taking over harbour-side community space, Silo Park.

Last year's artist lineup was an eclectic palette of pop, rock, indie, alternative, folk, soul and dance — headliners included: Mockasin Arabia Finn, The Phoenix Foundation and Yumi Zouma. For 2017, organisers have promised a lineup curated from New Zealand's finest and most exciting artists. Stay tuned for the full artist announcement.

As well as a musical component, roaming performers are a large part of the concept and attendees can again expect a dedicated family zone with children's entertainment, lighting installations, licensed bars and street food.

The festival welcomes punters of all ages event and is an intimate one with a strictly limited capacity of 2000. Visit wondergarden.co.nz for more information.
