Overview
Since forming in 2013 Wellington's Eyegum Music Collective have made a name for themselves by hosting pop-up events in flats, bowling clubs, community halls and bars. On top of their first full-blown nationwide tour with electronic-pop act Madeira, the initiative has just announced the launch of a new music festival.
A Gathering in the Forest will champion a similar 'do-it-together' spirit to now defunct underground festivals Camp A Low Hum and Chronophonium. It will be an intimate gathering with some of the finest local indie and alternative acts taking the stage. The inaugural run will be held across Waitangi weekend from February 4 - 5 in an undisclosed location. What we can tell you is that it will be in an isolated spot in the vicinity of Whanganui— fours hours from Wellington and six hours from Auckland. There will also be a river/swimming hole and no internet or cellphone reception.
Already confirmed acts include: Skux, Womb, Beatcomber, Goya, Madeira, Jon Lemmon, SoccerPractice, Heavy, A Girl Named Mo, Dbldbl, Pussywhippers, Trip Pony, Castlecliff Lights, Levi Patel and Suren Unka, Draghound, Hiboux, Mothers Dearest, Sea Views, Happy Plaster, The Pleasure Majenta, with a few more to come.
