Overview
It's a great time to be living in the capital. Lucky Wellingtonians are in for a slew of exciting events next year: after the recent announcement that two-day festival CubaDupa is set to return in March, it's just been announced that the city's famous annual Fringe Festival will return in February.
After a forced pivot to a COVID-friendly Fringe with capacity limits and local acts during the country's red light status in February, next year's iteration of the three-week festival will wow audiences with a stacked lineup of homegrown and international talent. What's on offer? Oh, only theatre, circus, comedy, cabaret, dance, visual arts, film and more.
Across 23 days in February and March, a series of international award-winning shows and acts will be arriving on our shores, including San Fran tour winner The Pandemusical Diaries, UK-award winners Concept for a Film and Invisible Mending, Melbourne winners Pillow Fight and more.
Not to mention a slew of local acts from around Pōneke, including Suitcase Show, Pōneke SaVAge K'Club and the Finest of the Fringe.
Excitingly, iconic Wellington venue, the recently reopened Hannah Playhouse, will house many of the performances at this year's festival, including a late-night cabaret show and the inaugural 2023 NZ Fringe Gala. Other iconic venues participating include BATS Theatre, Te Papa, The Fringe Bar, Raglan Roast Coffee — and even Wellington Zoo.
The full programme will go live on the fringe website on the evening of Thursday, December 15, when tickets will also go on sale.
Wellington's Fringe Festival will run from 17 February and runs until 11 March. Check out the full lineup online and grab your tickets from Thursday, December 15.
