Overview

Neck of the Woods is a dynamic and spacious new bar downstairs from K Rd. The space is ultra cool; the walls are painted in such a way as to make you feel like you're inside an '80s video game, with cartoons and space-inspired murals. This is combined with more typical modern night club furnishings.

From 5pm till 10pm you can grab a bite to eat from their very simple and rather nice menu or lil hitters (min-burgers) and sides. The lil hitters are well-designed to be satisfying and easy to eat despite their small size, with soft buns and only a few well-selected ingredients. The vegetarian option of bean patty, feta and beetroot is particularly nice, but a range of meet and fish options are also available, as well as a gluten-free option on the buns. The food is reasonably priced, with three lil hitters for $12, which makes a small meal, and sides for $5 each. Sides are available after 10pm, in case you need to soak up some booze or just reboot your party stamina.

The drinks menu is fairly extensive and prices are standard for a central city bar, ranging from about $8 for a glass of beer to $20 for cocktails. Their printed cocktail list is made up of six unique recipes, and the more conventional cocktails are available on request. Their cocktails have satisfying flavour combinations - The Mandrake is particularly nice, with a dry and spicy taste which consists of Cachaça and lime and toped off with celery bitters.

After 10pm Neck of the Woods plays host to a range of gigs. Recently Kody Nielson (of  The Mint Chicks) debuted his new future-disco project Silicon there. Every Wednesday at Neck of the Woods is The Billy, where NotW hosts some of the lost and little-known recordings from the '50s and '60s.

Neck of the Woods has a definite energetic ambience and is not the sort of place to go for a quiet drink, even in the earlier part of the evening. However, if you're looking for somewhere fun to go for anything from a single drink to an all-night spell of hedonism then Neck of the Woods has got what you need.
