Overview
Soul Bar and Bistro has become somewhat of an institution since its celebrated launch in 2000, frequented by local suits, foodies, the who's who of Auckland and tourists alike.
Located in the heart of Auckland's Viaduct, with arguably one of the city's most enviable terraces, looking out over the harbour full of yachts. Fairy lights, elegant table settings and a subtle Jazz playlist equal instant ambience.
The menu matches the view with an emphasis on fresh seafood. Start by snacking on tuna tostadas, fresh oysters, and a banging crayfish toast served with black garlic and saffron aioli. The scampi cocktail is a fab twist on an old-school fave, with the team adding jalapenos, fresh lime and edamame beans to the affair. Pasta is huge here, too. The Cloudy Bay clam tagliatelle with fennel and XO sauce is a huge win. As is the beef short rib ragu pappardelle with chilli and toasted raclette. It is a meaty, cheesy, carby dream.
Steaks, roasted chicken, wagyu beef tongue skewers and heaps of vege options also adorn the long, seasonal menu that's fit to be called one of the best in Auckland.
The service? Professional, knowledgeable and friendly.
Soul Bar & Bistro lived up to its mighty reputation as one of Auckland's loveliest, liveliest bistros with a wide-ranging menu which delivers the goods.
