Fusion eateries are trending in Auckland.

Euro/Japanese? Check.

Mexican/American? Check.

Japanese/Mexican? Check.

But The Botanist brings a whole new element to the mix. A cafe/bar/plant nursery fusion that has been created out of an old underground parking building. The newest addition to the ever- expanding City Works Depot is light, decorated with bright colours and pale wood. The most interesting aspect of the decor though, is the plants. The flowers really liven the place up - making the most of the carpark-transformed interior and adding a point of difference you won't find anywhere else in the city.

Another trend overwhelming Auckland is the rotational menu. The Botanist changes their menu daily and posts the updates on their Facebook page. Their breakfasts range from standard granola ($10) which is dressed up with rhubarb, nuts and fruits, to the smoked kahawai omelette ($10.50).

For lunch there are always a few specials, like the chicken or pulled pork wraps ($10.50) that are pretty awesome. Or the kumara pizza ($8) with mushrooms that is equally as awesome. Even the salad bar is notable, offering a range of salads ($8) including indian pumpkin, roast cauliflower or green herb.

You might be dubious about eating in a plant house/underground carpark, but the Botanist works it. Just consider it Auckland's newest kind of fusion.
