New Zealand-born, San Francisco-based merino sneaker brand Allbirds has had a meteoric rise since its inception. Since founder Tim Brown secured a research grant from the New Zealand Government to develop a durable textile out of the sustainable resource, the shoes, dubbed 'The World's Most Comfortable' have gone global and gained the attention of A-list celebrities, from Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern to Sarah Jessica Parker and Obama.

Now, Allbirds is set to open the doors to its first New Zealand retail store. With nearly 150 square metres of floorspace, the shop on Gore Street in Auckland's CBD will house the entire Allbirds lineup, including the original Wool Runners and the ultra-breathable high-tops made with eucalyptus pulp.

The company is tipping its hat to the region with a special range of Auckland-inspired laces — Waiheke Island Teal, Light Path Magenta and West Coast Black Sand — while Allbirds designer Jamie McLellan has crafted custom furniture for the store.

To mark the opening from 15–18 August, free coffee will be handed out to those who bring along their own keep-cup, during store hours. A conversation with founder Tim Brown will follow at The Generator from 6–8pm.

Allbirds Britomart will be open at 5 Gore Street, Britomart from Thursday, 15 August.
