Overview

Clayton Wells, the brain behind Sydney's Automata (aka Weekend Australian Magazine's hottest chef of 2016), is stopping by Auckland to give residents a taste of his cult restaurant.

Before opening Automata, Wells cut his teeth and subsequently perfected his art at renowned restaurants such as Momofuku, NOMA, Quay Restaurant and Tetsuya for 15 years. Years of hard work paid off, his restaurant Automata is currently one of the top restaurants in Sydney. The eatery aims to create a fine dining experience with the top button undone, creating quality food but without as many rules and restrictions.

Automata is a warehouse-style space with large communal tables and menus that are "formulated with freedom and energy that translates into the dining room". The dishes on Clayton's five-course tasting menu also continually change every few weeks, keeping his chefs on their toes and engaged.

On August 15 and 16, Wells will step into the trenches of Kyle Street and Jordan MacDonald's Culprit. to deliver an Automata-inspired five-course specialty menu for ticket holders. It's pretty much the next best thing to actually flying to Sydney and trying Automata cuisine in its natural habitat.
