A Taste of Jaan
Eight courses of "simple yet complex" perfection.
Overview
Devon-bred and Michelin-starred Kirk Westaway from Singapore's Jaan is coming to Auckland to give a little taste of the restaurant and his cooking style — which is "simple yet complex," if you ask him, but if you ask others they'd call it "technically challenging yet beautifully harmonious." Westaway's accolades include winning the 2016 S.Pellegrino Young Chef competition (Southeast Asia) and the title of Rising Chef of the Year at the World Gourmet Summit Awards of Excellence.
Hosting Westaway for the eight-course meal that includes wine matches and snacks is Chef Nobu Lee from fine dining stalwart Clooney, which had briefly closed before reopening in February this year with a "friendlier" price point. Lee's LinkedIn includes working for L'Atelier de Joe Robuchon in Taipei, and as a head chef at Australia's Marque and Vue de Monde.
Similarly to Westaway, Lee describes his style of food as "simple, focused, local, and clean", and in tune with the "rhythm of the seasons."
