Overview

Ah bien sûre, Alliance Francaise French Film Festival is back. From March to mid April across a number of NZ cinemas— Rialto and Berkley Cinemas in Auckland and The Embassy Theatre in Wellington— the French Film Festival will bring our annual dose of French culture. The genres of film range from romance to thriller, all with thick French plotlines bound to draw you in as the language of love tends to do.

This year the AFF have made sure to spotlight female talent in the lineup of films. While it's a chance to brush up on your French, don't worry too much, there are subtitles in the majority of films. Among a number of films, two to look out for are Standing Tall and The Odyssey. One (Standing Tall), is an intense drama following a young orphan and the few people in his life attempting to save him from himself, with critically acclaimed Emmanuelle Bercot as directer and actress. The other (The Odyssey), is set in 1948, a tale of adventure; one man exploring the depths of the ocean. Alors, allez vite!
